Decommissioning and Remediation – Logging Camp

Project Budget: $150,000

As prime contractor TerraWest managed the demolition and decommission of an historic logging camp on Vancouver Island. A comprehensive Stage 2 PSI and Detailed Site Investigation identified on-site contaminants as hydrocarbons, metals, and Hazardous Wastes. Extensive field work was required to assess the extent of contamination. Field work carried out at this site included test-pitting, boreholes, installation of multi-level groundwater monitoring wells, and soils and groundwater sampling. TerraWest developed and carried out an Independent Remediation plan. Final remedial actions and reporting were completed to achieve compliance with applicable standards of the Environmental Management Act, the Ministry of Environment, and requirements for site redevelopment.

Stage 1 & 2 PSI, Storage Tank Decommissioning

Project Budget: $120,000

TerraWest was retained to complete a Stage 1 PSI and follow-up Stage 2 PSI in the Queen Charlotte Islands. The assessment work identified extensive hydrocarbon contamination and 9 Underground Storage Tanks (USTs). TerraWest planned and managed the removal and decommissioning of the USTs, the on-site handling of all contaminated soils, and bioremediation of the soils. Follow-up confirmatory soil and groundwater sampling was conducted to ensure compliance with the Contaminated Sites Regulation and to allow for future land transfer and/or redevelopment.

Stage 1 & 2 PSI, Landfill Closure

Project Budget: $65,000

TerraWest completed extensive Stage 1 & 2 Preliminary Site Investigation activities on a former industrial select waste landfill site located on Vancouver Island. As per the Client’s request and Regulatory requirements, TerraWest developed and implemented a mitigation strategy for landfill leachate control and monitoring, and conducted on-going monitoring of the landfill leachate and underlying groundwater. As part of the closure of the landfill, TerraWest completed a Closure Plan and finalized abandonment permitting requirements with the Ministry of Environment.
